Today I was blessed with a mail server on the fritz. The CPU was pegging at 100%, and I had difficulty doing much of anything. I've noticed that the CPU was maxing itself out alot lately, but wasn't figuring out exactly why (I guess it's times like these when you are forced to figure it out!) Anyway, I pulled up the Task Manager and saw that there were several instances of ntvdm.exe, smtp32.exe, etc. The spool was filling up fast (hit over 3000 messages rather quickly). A search through the archives said something about the "heap" issues and pointed to a potential solution on Microsoft's website regarding editing the config.nt file. I stopped all the iMail services, moved the files from the spool folder, and edited the config.nt file. After a reboot, everything seems to be working great - better than ever (knocking on wood). I moved the files back into the spool folder and it is processing great. Perhaps I dodged another bullet. My question is - it appears that this "magic" fix took care of things - but why now? Also, when it started processing messages again, I noticed several messages (mainly from website forms that were filled out) that were from two months ago. I'm a little confused by that (and so are our clients who are yelling about it). For what it's worth, we are on a Windows 2000 server with iMail 8.22 and the latest Declude suite.
