Title: POPD32
Kelly,

Whenever I hear about services that 'stop for no reason', I think "there must be a reason"! The services are designed to work and always (OK, almost, but this is really rare!) do. So the question becomes what is the reason. Most often, data corruption and the 'repair' you did might not be sufficient to remove all questions about the dll and .exe files. Did you check the HD system and repair it? Did you restart the computer before/after replacing the files? The old dlls could still be in memory...

Are you really sure the services are not responding (can you telnet to the port and get a response) or just responding very slowly? If slowly, then something is keeping the computer busy or there are lots of existing connections (the numbers in the telnet response line tell 2 things, how many since last restart and current number of connections). What does Task Manager show? If CPU util is low, then how about the HD and its queue? If that HD has a LED, is is always on? That might indicate a backed up disk queue. If you have lots of logging enabled, try turning some of it off (frees up disk resources).

Checked the Event logs? If you see any errors or warnings, something needs fixing... Make them all go away and see how IMail works then.

Anyway, this should get you started and maybe you can provide us with more info about the system hardware and software on it.

The messages in the spool directory don't effect SMTPD or POP3.

Remove everything from the queue and see how it runs. You can then add emails back into it until it stops. Basically, you're eliminating emails that are good until you find the one that is causing the problem.

I looked through a few logs and can't seem to find any "error 500", however I did run ispcln and deleted everything prior to 3 days ago. Everything seems to be ok so far. Thank you for the help.

check your logs for an error 500 (I think). there's probably a message in the queue that is causing your problem.

Hello all,

For the past few weeks both SMTPD32 and more recently POPD32 keep stopping for no reason. Yesterday I deleted all the .dll and .exe files from the IMail folder and reinstalled them, but this morning I came in to find that POPD32 shutdown again. I have been checking and tweaking everything IPSwitch support has suggested but can't figure out what is causing this. If anyone has experienced these problems please let me know what you did to fix. I am running 8.22 + w2k3.
