John,
You can enable SMTP authentication on a Cisco PIX firewall with the
command:
"no fixup protocol smtp 25"

John,
Is your local network
behind a firewall? There are certain settings on some firewalls that will
filter SMTP auth message (Cisco PIX is one example but not the only one)
That would explain why it
works locally but not remotely.

There's no authenticated message in the second snippet. You
sure you turned on authentication on your home puter?

Subject: [IMail Forum] Relay
Change Made
I have our Imail server
(216.125.247.228) running 8.21 version. We most recently changed the SMTP
relay settings from Relay for local users only to No Mail Relay. This was to
get removed from the ORDB database. This part was successful. We have been
removed from that site.
After reading the white papers on
this procedure, I had the clients running Outlook Express configure their
client to Authenticate the outgoing server by checking the box "My server
requires authentication". This worked great from our local network. The
problem is that the authentication is not working when a client is outside of
our local network using Outlook Express. I should also mention that Outlook
Express is the only client I have tested this with.
Any help is truly appreciated.
Here are snippets from log files
showing one from the internal network that works, and one from my home outside
the local network that does not work.
This one worked
from local network.
