Seems to be a common answer.

Kevin, if you can't match the R & D dollars of larger software companies then you need to concentrate on providing a better level of service. 60 minute hold times for support isn't going to win you many customers. I think to even drop the money issues on your customer base is weak considering you've doubled your SA costs in the past 2 years and we have to deal with the likes of Google, Yahoo and everyone else offering our services for free. Despite that our small hosting companies continue to grow because we care about our customers and they appreciate it. You guys do have moments of brilliance such as the 8.22 patch from Tripp (and others I'm sure) but it only seems to come out when you get admonished by your customers. Since it's reactive rather than proactive it's received well but with prejudice. I realize I'm not "in the know" as I don't work for you but I am an outside loudmouth observer. I don't need a job today but if you guys continue to keep hitting us with software releases like this I might.

Email is the absolute essential tool that you provide and we as customers need to provide our own customers. This chain cannot be broken or even bent in any way which is what seems to keep happening. Quite frankly it's just not that easy to move to something else when so many customers depend on a system they've used for years. I'm sure you'd rather that I do so and at this point I would really like to. I can't do that as easily as I would like to. I will tell you that you have me halfway there with this new web mail I had to purchase because of this latest problem.

Bill, we ended up having to reinstall 8.22 with lots of help from tech support and it cost us lots of customers as it took Ipswitch a week to get everything back to normal. They told us as well that we were the only ones with that problem.  I wish you luck.

I did upgrade to 2006.1 which is why I'm hosed now.

2006.04a ran great! It wasn't until I installed .01 that things got f'd up. Since I can't go back I have to go forward. Once again, Ipswitch claims I'm the only one that has this problem even though it's mentioned in the forums. They can reproduce the problem and tell me that I'll have to wait for 2006.2 before it will be fixed. Again, I can't go back and I can't go forward for a month so I'm supposed to be satisfied with that as a solution? Hell no.

Hi,

Bill, i do not agree with your latest statement. As everybody knows, Ipswitch spent a lot of time to get IMail 2006 running. It's also true, that a brand new software, a release1.0, can cause problems. That's for sure a reason, why Ipswitch released several versions of IMail 2006 this year. It's up to you to decide to jump on the train or not. We waited for the 2006.1 release, which is actually the best version and we used older versions only for internal testing and to get an impression of the product.

In my opinion, it's a natural thing to upgrade from version 2006.04 to 2006.1. And if 2006.1x is available, we have to upgrade too like we have to upgrade other software.

The only wish i have: The next version of IMail should be available as a full product for a new installation and a patch version which only includes the changed files.

btw: we couldn't reproduce the slow login on our system. It takes a bit longer than the old webmail, but it's ok. Maybe you have to upgrade to version 2006.1 ;-)

Guys, here's my solution to staying off of 2006 until your comfortable while still make your users happy:

http://www.webmailasp.net/ buy their webmail solution which is pretty nice and a whopping $100

http://www.serverobjects.com/products.htm you'll need their aspmail and asppop3 software $200

install that and you're good to go with a much nicer interface and you can turn off web messaging.

Kevin, since I'm once again stuck between a rock and a hard place I would appreciate your refunding this expense to me. I can't wait on your guys to fix the slow login problem by waiting for 2006.2! Thanks for calling me. I shouldn't have to track down other imail users with the same problem as me, again. You should have fixed this problem in 2006.0x instead of forcing people to jump to 2006.1.

Maybe I just answered my own question. The December 2005 "patch" is 23MB, so that's probably the version upgrade from 8.2, right?

Does the current 8.22 download include the December 2005 patch?
