Thought you said to a gmail account? Even so, if it is in the relay
list it should go thru then.

No, this user is sending locally and is in the subnet allowed for relay.

I think that usually shows that they did not authenticate before sending
out. Is there also a line showing that the user authenticated before
trying to send the email?

I've had an interesting problem that has been cropping up more and more
lately. Sometimes a user will send email and it will come back:

From: System Administrator
Sent: Wednesday, November 08, 2006 3:20 PM
To: John Doe ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
Subject: Undeliverable: Lunch

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

      Subject: Lunch
      Sent: 11/8/2006 3:20 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

John Doe ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) on 11/8/2006 3:20 PM
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's
email server. Please contact your system administrator.
            <driller.com #5.5.0 smtp;550 not local host gmail.com, not a
gateway>

The logs show this about the email:

20061108 152024 127.0.0.1 SMTPD (3c08017b00000cf8) [127.0.0.1]

Then end suddenly, just like that. Most all the other mail is working
fine. A test message to another gmail user went right through. What am I
missing?
