A telnet connection to SMTP or POP3 service will show a pair of numbers near
the end of the response line, the first is the number of connections since
last restart and the second is the current number of connections (including
your telnet session).
220 MAILSERVER1.MYDOMAIN.COM (IMail 9.04 493102-16) NT-ESMTP Server X1

This server has had 493,102 connections since restart and currently has 15
other connections... and needs to be updated to 9.10.

The time it takes to return the response is something of a clue to how busy
the server is, too. It should be pretty quick, a second or 2, but up to 10
seconds is not unusual.

Restart the service and you should see immediate improvements in
performance...

Subject: [IMail Forum] Utility to find pop3 load problem

Hello,

Recently, we have been facing a heavy load on the pop3 service because of
which the server becomes slow. Is there an utilty to find out how many users
are connecting to the pop3 in short intervals and what is causing the
problem for the load?

Nitaish
