Better move this question to teh ASSP Mailing list.

I'm not sure.. as was discussed earlier today, it would appear this and
other solutions like Len's IMgate are the only way one can continue to use
Imail without tearing one's hair out, in my opinion.

Many Imail users are using an older version that is no longer supported. They need something, some sort of gateway solution that is actively being supported in front of their old version of Imail. Some Imail users are using 8.22, the last version before 2006.xx came out and is somewhat supported, which has been noted to have occasional stability issues for some. Those sites probably need something in front to improve stability and many have reported just that after adding a gateway.

While I don't think it's fair to hold Ipswitch accountable for older non-supported versions of their software even though we want to keep using it for one reason or another, any solutions that are found to facilitate continued usage should certainly be passed on to fellow list members but, in my opinion, deep explanations and questions about those applications should be reserved for their support groups.

That being said, I don't think 2006.2+ has been proven to _need_ a third party application to avoid "tearing one's hair out", but it has other issues that make it less than perfect for others like the IIS security and webmail issues which Ipswitch has been work hard to improve. Ipswitch should certainly be held accountable for these issues and they do seem to have a keen interest in getting this all to work well again as it once did. Additionally, 2006.xx will still benefit from an anti-spam proxy or gateway to reduce it's workload and protect your customer/users from spam and viruses.
