I would recommend getting the DNSCMD utility from the windows server resource kit. Use it to enumerate the zones on the old server, then use the list and DNSCMD to create the zones on the new server.
We've done this successfully a couple of times. The move wasn't successful. I copied the zones files and the registry keys that I thought made up the DNS. I also moved the IP address that was on old DNS server to the new DNS server, also keeping the original IP of the new DNS server. The zones would not show up on the other server (registry paths were correct). I'm obviously missing something here. Any more tips would be appreciated. As long as you keep mail.domain2.com's original IP address on it as well, you won't need to make any changes to the DNS entries. The point is that the DNS entries(A records) and IP addresses match up, what box they're on makes no difference to DNS. Since the IP addresses of both ns.domain1.com and mail.domain2.com will remain the same, the reverse records won't need changed either. -- Kirk Mitchell-General Manager [EMAIL PROTECTED] Keystone Connect Unlock Your World Altoona, PA 814-941-5000 http://www.keyconn.net To Unsubscribe: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/mailing-lists.html List Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/imail_forum%40list.ipswitch.com/ Knowledge Base/FAQ: http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/
