Michael:

Is your DNS integrated with Active Directory and a Domain Controller.?

Would be better to just add a domain controller to the network when the
Registry and DNS info would be automatically transferred to new controller,
then you can blitz the first server, just remove its IP address from InterNIC
or whoever as an SOA

If you haven't done it, set up Active Directory on first DNS Server, then have
Active Directory replicate everything over to new Domain Controller/DNS server.
Saves even thinking about registry and copying DNS files

What is your domain name and IP addresses of Name Severs?

Thanks for the responses. The move wasn't successful. I copied the zones
files and the registry keys that I thought made up the DNS. I also moved the
IP address that was on old DNS server to the new DNS server, also keeping the
original IP of the new DNS server. The zones would not show up on the other
server (registry paths were correct). I'm obviously missing something here.
Any more tips would be appreciated.

  Thanks,

  Mike

You can move the IP address to the temp machine and replicate the
original's DNS setup on it as well. As long as you keep mail.domain2.com's
original IP address on it as well, you won't need to make any changes to
the DNS entries. The point is that the DNS entries(A records) and IP
addresses match up, what box they're on makes no difference to DNS. Since
the IP addresses of both ns.domain1.com and mail.domain2.com will remain
the same, the reverse records won't need changed either.
