Due to a previous name change, todhunter.com is an alias of cruzaninc.com so all email addressed to me at either [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] goes to the cruzaninc.com address.

Our email domain will be changing to floridadistillers.com and our email format will be changing to firstname.lastname.

So, my new address will be [EMAIL PROTECTED]

============

IMGate has a sender and/or recipient re-write function, where it can re-write recipients, or senders, or both.

The file format is self-evident,

#original         #re-written

[EMAIL PROTECTED]  [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

With IMGate as the MX,

1. you could convert all incoming mail for any recipient of the 2 old domains to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

2. Any Imail user sending out as @todhunter.com or @cruzaninc.com would actually be delivered to Internet as [EMAIL PROTECTED]

The DNS is dead simple, where mx1.floridadistillers.com is the IMGate machine, which also serves as the Imail outbound gateway.:

floridadistillers.com.  mx  5  mx1.floridadistillers.com.
todhunter.com.  mx 5  mx1.floridadistillers.com.
cruzaninc.com.  mx 5  mx1.floridadistillers.com.

This approach totally de-couples the public (seen by Internet) switch over of the 2 old domains to the new domains from your hassles on Imail and on your users mail clients of converting/folding the old domains and mailboxes into the new domain. ie, no disruption whatsoever.

I've done this for a couple clients and the switch over was painless all around, no lost mail, and the switch over (as seen by Internet) was immediate. No need for 3 months to switch over.

You can leave the re-write function in place forever, so that any senders on Internet that straggle in switching to the new address format or who send only very intermittently and keep sending to the old domains will never have their mail rejected. This really welcome because users who are subscribed to various e-commerce sites or send-only list servers under the old domains can stay subscribed under the old domains while being under no pressure or deadline to go unsub as old domain and re-sub as new domain.

And of course you get all the other advantages of IMgate. :)
