This really has nothing to do with the initial question, but...
I can't claim that OpenOffice is perfectly compatible in every aspect,
but I have found it to be pretty solid and it covers most all of the
functionality needed by every day office users (some power users may be
used to MS functionality though). It would take some re-training by the
users themselves since not every button is the same, but it may be worth it.
Although Microsoft Office and Outlook are the clear leaders in this sort
of software, I find that there is a lot to be desired, and they
typically represent the majority of software expense. For every person
that claims incompatibility, there are those that claim none except for
the most obvious (macros for instance). My favorite second-hand story
was from a local bank where the board was considering their options of
Microsoft or OpenOffice, and someone claimed that they would have all
sorts of difficulty sharing documents with others and then another board
member piped up that he had been doing it for about 2 years already and
they never knew the difference.
I think it's worthwhile to give it a trial before dismissing it based on
message list comments. There's the potential of saving a lot of money,
and also saving a lot of trouble if you can ditch buggy apps like
Outlook for something like Thunderbird or even just go with webmail (if
it works).

Hi Travis,
As long as you install MS Office as the administrator initially it
only takes a few seconds to set up the new users individual profile on
first use.
As SJ correctly points out OpenOffice is not a good solution in a
business situation where you are exchanging documents with the outside
world.
It's only advantage is that it is free but that's about it. I have had
a couple of small clients try it and they all switched back to MS
Office quickly.

OpenOffice'd be great if it was completely compatible with what the

MS document so someone else can see it wipes out any special formatting

How about downloading openoffice instead of playing this game?

Subject: [IMail Forum] OT: Office 2003 Installation for Multiple Users
All,
Is it possible to install Office 2003 Pro on a shared workstation
so that
each user that logs onto that machine is not prompted to enter their
initials and to setup Word or whichever office program they run for the
first time? I would imagine this is possible but I can't seem to find
anything pointing to Office 2003 in particular.
Thank in Advance,
Travis
