This is a hassle, and kinda Mickey Mouse, but you could create a user
account demo, and subscribe it to the list.

Then, if you could trust people NOT to download the messages with a POP
email client, (and remove them from the server) - they could read everything
at one user's mailbox.

I don't think you could people from messing it up, but it might serve a few
trusted users.

You could prevent that account from posting by putting the address in a kill
file or filtering for it.
You could probably also strip the web messaging templates of send and delete
command options - and others that you don't want users to mess with.

I guess if you moved messages into a new sub mailbox every month, you'd have
sort of an archive, too.
