I'm sorry to report that my alternate account now exhibits the bad behaviour.  While correctly displaying the total number of messages, it fails to download the new ones.

I have switched on the option that leaves a copy of the message on the server.  I will need to go in via HTML and read these messages.

YES!  Irritates my users. Web Messaging  shows the 'invisible' message, and allows users to delete.  We're primarily on OE 5.01 and using IMAP, don't know if this is the case with POP3 access.

Usually, its external unsolicited email that causes problems, but I had a first occurance of an internal user (Mac, Netscape 4.7 Messenger) sending a group email to our entire staff and it was 'invisible' to all our OE clients. Had to show MANY people the Web messaging feature to remove it.

Did not know about the second account trick. I'll try it. I hope one of the many experts here on this list can get to the bottom of this.

I have had this annoying problem using Outlook Express 4.x and 5.x.  I have new messages (I can see them using the HTML client), yet Outlook Express refuses to download them.

What irks me is that I can create a second account in express and manual ask the second account to check mail, and by-golly, there it comes.

Anyone else with this problem?
