Please see the below message in relation to this question...
The quoted text below is from a mailing list I am locally affiliated with.
It came after a person using iMail (apparently the web interface) e-mailed a
message to the list that did not include carriage returns... I have not
experienced the problem but was curious whether this is really an iMail
problem. There has been discussion as to what properly formatted e-mail
usually contains and so far, I cannot decide if it is indeed an iMail issue.
Any thoughts?

Well, all's I know is MOST mail I receive *does* wrap
properly. Imail apparently does not, or is a web-based app
which doesn't do ANY sort of wrapping on outbound. I know
that KMail and Outlook Express (both excellent programs,
IMNSHO) *do* have a setting for wrap on outbound. I
typically set it a bit low to compensate for even more
"brain dead" programs (Win3.x, etc) which can't wrap.

I've had messages from other people who use IMail and it
definitely does NOT wrap as it should.
