I've never seen anybody here report doing that.

Yes, I agree that the option of being able to run the Web messaging service
on a separate machine would be super enhancement, for flexibility and
scaleability (and competitiveness. neologism?).

Well, first, Ipswitch needs to unbundle web msging from the Imail machine.
and of course, let's not have just one, but any number of web msging machines.

If you really need separate web msgsing NOW, then take a look a
www.KBmail.com which is a java server-side application that POP's mail from
any number of POP3 servers. The price is reasonable, imo.

Can't do this at all. Each Imail machine is totally independendent of
other Imail servers. There is some inter-machine cooperation with Imail
peering but I'm still waiting to hear how this is really a step forward.

For best scalablility, if that's what you need eventually, start with at
least 3 controllers+disks for any given Imail machine:

disk1: NT system partition and main swap parition

disk2: programs including Imail\spool directory ( send/recv msg queues +
log files )

disk3: user mailboxes ( domains \ users )

disk4: more like disk3

If you use caching SCSI controllers, then you'll give Imail's heavily
multi-processed services the best chance to overlap disk i/o for parallel
processing. reading/writing mailboxes overlapped with reading/writing
queue and log files.

You can also load-balance by building complementary mail hub mahines seen
here: http://IMGate.MEIway.com.
