I've had to use IP address subnets to work
around this. for example if the dynamic IP
address you get from the ISP is
192.168.100.15
you can setup an IP address of 192.168.100.0
with a subnet mask of
255.255.255.0 and you'll pass all IP's from
192.168.100.0 to 192.168.100.255. Normally
the dynamic IP will be in a C class range
like this.
It is irritating though. The ID and Password
should be sufficient to allow you to send
mail from _any_ IP.

Yes, I have this problem also.
If I turn OFF Mail Relay (or at least leave
it for known IP addresses),
and if I dial into the internet via some
public portal (and get assigned
another IP address):
1) If I set up my mail client with "My
Outgoing Mail Server Requires
Authentication" then upon trying to send
mail, I get the error: "The
TCP/IP
Connection was unexpectedly terminated by
the server".
2) If I set up my mail client with no SMTP
Authentication (ie. the above
option is not ticked) then I get the usual
"not a gateway" error.
If I turn ON the Mail relay (ie. I don'ty
disable it) on the server, then
if
the mail client has SMTP Auth turned on, I
get that strange "TCP/IP
Connection Terminated" error again.
The only time it works, is if I leave MAIL
RELAY on (but I am still on the
ORBS list because of this :-(, and I leave
no SMTP Auth on the client.
