Troy,
To address you concern of having to enter both the hostname and the
(subject-to-change) ip address in NT hosts file for Imail relaying, IMGate
to the rescue yet again:
There are two situation where IMGate/postfix can be used for relaying mail:
1. dynamically, where the IMGate hostname is listed in a domain's MX
records. You don't have to tell postfix to accept these hosts by entering
hostnames and ip's. postfix will query DNS and determine that postfix's
myhostname is in the MX list. Once mail is received for such a host,
postfix will then attempt to relay the mail the "best available" MX for
that domain (necessarily higher than postfix's own MX "preference value"
for that domain)
So, you don't even have to configure postfix per-domain at all for it to
serve a mx_backup host. Just define the IMGate machine as an
less-than-primary MX for your client's mailserver at the end of the leased
line.
2. Statically, where you have two "table files" to define: a) the
relay_domains file that list for postfix which domains to accept mail for
and g) the transport file that tells postfix per-domain how/where to relay
such mail. This situation is similar to Imail's relaying setup, but more
flexible.
