Download the latest 5.0x templates from the Ipswitch web 
site. The '.' problem is a problem with the javascript in 
the adduser.html page. 

If you don't want to download or you've customized. If you
know JS, in the function validate() there's a for loop that 
checks for valid characters. In that for loop there's a an 
if statement for the ranges and special characters. Just add
a line for the period.
