Yes. Haven't seen it with Outlook Express though, only with Outlook. Can't
remember all the ins and outs but basically it's something to do with
sending a non-plain text message from Outlook to a non-Outlook client. If
you send an html mail, Outlook bundles the attachment into this winmail.dat
file because it presumes you are sending to someone who also has Outlook, I
believe. If they do have Outlook then they see it as normal (PC to PC) but
if they don't then it comes out as winmail.dat, unreadable, can't open it
etc etc. Don't know about PC to Mac or vice versa.
If you change the message format to plain text then it should send the
attachment as you would expect so the Mac can receive it.
As for the web interface issue I have no idea I'm afraid (don't use it that
much).
Ali.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Attaching Files and PC - MAC issues
I have two questions, each related to the other. I tried sending a word file
as an attachment from a PC to a MAC. When attempting to open this attachment
on the MAC, I quickly realized that the file had been renamed to
winmail.dat, and could not open it at all. Is this client-side (because of
Outlook Express)? Or does iMail control this? Next, I tried to use the web
interface to download the attachment and then open it. Again, no luck. The
summary page said that there was an attachment, but when I went to open the
e-mail, there was no option to download the file, nor was there any
indication of an attachment. I have been successful at attaching text and
image files - any reason a word file would present such difficulties?
Thanks!
