has a description of the problem. It was able to crash Outlook Express on my Windows
2000 machine, and appears as though it could have run code on there, too.
Imagine a virus that could replicate as soon as your mail client received the message,
whether or not you opened it. It would spread a lot faster (not having to wait for
you to open it), and a lot wider (since it would get sent whether or not you opened
it).
I have been working on a filter to block corrupted Date: headers to try to prevent any
problems on my mail server here. We are now blocking POP3 access to outside servers.
