yes, but say "relay" instead of "send", it's just a little more scary, and
precise
>Relay mail for address: iMail will send any mail that originates from
>specified IP addrs
yes
>No Mail Relay: iMail will not relay any mail
Yes, a closed server, only local users can send to only local users. No
mail is delivered to remote destinations.
>Local Hosts Only: iMail will relay any mail where the from field claims to
>be one of my domains
specically, when the Imail SMTPD server is presented with msg where the
header is:
MAIL FROM: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
then Imail will accept it and relay it to wherever
>Local Users Only: iMail will relay any mail where the from field claims to
>be one of my users
MAIL FROM: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
>So I haven't really made it much harder at all to send spam through my

no, all msg headers are totally untrustable since, as I showed you, anybody
can spoof a MAIL FROM: header.
>If I choose relay for addresses and give it my internal IP block
>then only outside users dialed into other ISPs will need to enable SMTP
>auth.
that's technically correct, but it's simpler, in practice, for you and
them, just to tell everybody "The One, True SMTP AUTH Story". That way, if
one of your DUL users moves around to another ISP but keeps his InfoDish
accnt, he won't forget to turn on SMTP AUTH, can't send mail, be
hassled, then hasssle you, since he has been told, from day one, to always
use SMTP AUTH to send mail to/thru InfoDish.
>Please forgive me, I'm sure all of this is painfully obvious
It isn't obvious at all, and, due to the number of newbies lurking here,
this needs repeating every week, it seems.
