Yeah, but the registry should not become "corrupted" or get "circular"
references if the Administration tools worked properly. And if it is a
procedure problem, the tools should not let you create these circular
references, don't you think?

This happened to me when adding a host through the IMail administrator, it
created a virtual00x key that referenced to my default "realIP" host key,
when one checked the host in IMail Admin it would display the users of the
default host. If one deleted that vhost from the IMail tool, it remove the
associated "defaultdomain" key from the registry, and hence wiped out the
default domian.

Luckily I was using a SQL Server db, and i just had to recreate the realIP
key, and "manually" delete the virtual00x key from the registry.

As you mentioned in another post the regback utility seems to only work when
services are stopped, so it wouldn't have helped if i had been relying on
that utility for userdb backups.

The only times I have seen this problem was when there was some damage to
the registry. The IP (or VirtualXXX) and Domain name folders, were not
correct (they are 'circular' references!), so IMail thinks one (or more) IP
(virtualXXX) is for the 'wrong' domain and the 'Domain' was for another IP.

If you backup (registry, export) the registry branches for each domain, you
can use that to 'restore' your missing domains/users/passwords. However
until the registry is fixed, this will likely continue.
