Matt,
I'd have to say that you did do something wrong. If the Registry data were
correct, then IMail Admininstator would have shown the user and you would
not have needed to 'create' a new one of that name. That the directory was
there, means that new account will use that dir/mailbox file (if no
dir/file, then no old mail), which is good.
My guess is that some modification you did to the registry was not quite
right, or incomplete. If you have a copy of the old registry and one of the
new, you can probably compare the 2 to see what is different and that might
confirm this. Basically, IMail knew the domain existed in the registry, but
did not have any users in that branch of the registry. Could mean that you
have 2 domains 'confused', in IMail section of the registry.
