Len and everybody else with the 5 "RCPT TO" to gateway problem,
NOTE: I believe it is truly a bug. If designed this way on purpose, it was
an oversight that should be corrected!! The only workaround that I have
come up with is to set your 'max recips per message' on each list to 5.
This will allow the messages to be dumped over to the relay immediately but
at a tremendous cost. If you have 8000 subscribers, that equates to 1600
connection attempts to your gateway. If instead you set the max recips per
message to 500 (assuming IMail was fixed), your connection attempts are
decreased to 16. Less traffic (the actual data file would be sent 16 times
instead of 1600)! less smtp delivers processes on the imail box, less
storage on imail, less storage on the gateway, more efficient! etc...
This appears to be the final word and IPswitch support says it's not a bug!
<snippped from support email>
Hi David,
I am the person this has been escalated to, and the final word came from the
developers, not me. In fact, this came from the Development Manager today.
I have forwarded your e-mails to the Development Manager, which is why he
gave me the answer. He understands what you are saying, however, he wants
you to realize this is by design, and is not a bug that needs fixing. Your
request has been noted, and it is reasonable. It will be looked at as a
feature request, but not as a bug.
I will keep this ticket open if you like, and if the functionality should
change I will certainly let you know. I will also forward this e-mail to
the Dev. Manager to let him know you don't consider this issue closed.
Thanks David.

I understand and accept your reasoning for the 5 RCPT TO limitation when
delivering mail. HOWEVER, if I have configured imail to deliver all mail to
a gateway instead, imail should NOT use the same limitations. This should
be configurable in the SMTP properties along with the gateway setting.
After all, if I configure imail to use a gateway, the gateway is most
likely owned/operated my me so the fear of spam blocking techniques should
not be an issue.
5 RCPT TO limit per message to a single domain = Fine
5 RCPT TO limit when 'relay all mail thru gateway' = Unacceptable
Please keep this ticket open. This issue has not been resolved. If this is
the final word on the 5 RCPT problem, please let me know who to contact to
escalate this issue.
Thank you,
