A couple things. First, if you do not refresh your list of hosts
changes you make may not appear in the DNS manager in Win2k. This
refreshing business has screwed me up several times.
If you cannot get it to work try starting over. Delete the entire
zone.
The "add zone". Click on your active directory if you like to
integrate it.
Type in domain.com.
The zone will appear at the bottom of your list (not in alpha
order)
Highlight the zone name and right click the mouse to open your
option list. Select add new host.
enter "mail", and the appropriate ip address. Check the box to
have it update your ptr record and click "add host"
do this again if you need a "www" host record, using the ip
address for your website
do this again with "" (nothing), if you want http://domain.com to
point to your web address, and the same ip as for www, above"
Highlight the zone again and right click for your option list.
This time select add a "Mail Exchanger".
Leave the first blank empty and type "mail.domain.com" in the
second blank. You can leave the "10" there or use some other
priority as you like.
This should work.
Don't mess with the registry or anything or you will end up
hiring a consultant or reinstalling win 2k :)
I am no expert, but len helped me get started with some basic
answers and i have a couple mos experience with win 2k.
