You don't really need it, but if it is already installed, you 
might as well leave it alone.  It doesn't hurt anything, and it 
has some advantages as you grow. Removing may be involved. I 
remember reading that it is not as straight forward as you might 
think. 

If you really want to be rid of it, I would reinstall win2k 
completetly.  But like i said, I have it installed. It causes me 
no greif that I know of. And it does have certain advantages. 
Though it has been a couple of very long weeks so I can't even 
remember where my servers are located at this point let alone 
what the advantages are of active directory.
