Yes, that does happen quite a bit.  The worst is when someone has a
virus/worm, you let them know, and they say they scanned their computer and
don't have one, but they still send it out.  That was common with kak.worm.

One option is to use filters.  This will keep out the common viruses, but
you have to be careful to set it up correctly.

The other option right now is an SMTP-based virus scanner (McAfee's
WebShield SMTP, NAVIEG, Trend Micro, etc.).  With these, you set up a
separate SMTP server for intercepting E-mail, and then it gets forwarded to
IMail.

Soon, we will be releasing a program (Declude Virus) that works will allow
you to scan mail using an inexpensive command line virus scanner.  It works
with IMail to intercept the E-mails, checks for attachments, and sends them
to the virus scanner.  The first version is just entering beta.
