Hi,

I know this is a never ending topic, but I just dont know what I could be
doing wrong.
I use Outlook 2000.
I have no mail relay on my 6.05 (latest patches as of 26/November/2000).
I use a database for User Authentication.
The domain in question has its own IP address.

There are two errors that ever come up:
One is the well known "not a gateway" error (error nr. 0x800ccc79).
The other is the less known "The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly
terminated by the server. (Account: [EMAIL PROTECTED], SMTP Server:
mail.infocon.pl, Error Number: 0x800ccc0f)".

Here is what I get:
Having the Outlook 2000 Client with the CHECKED "My server Requires Auth"
check box, if I:
1) UNCHECK the "Disable SMTP Auth Reporting" on the server, I get the
0x800ccc0f error (connection unexpectedly terminated by the server).
2) CHECK the "Disable SMTP Auth Reporting" on the server, I get the
0x800ccc79 error (not a gateway)

Having the Outlook 2000 Client with the UNCHECKED "My server Requires Auth"
check box, if I:
1) UNCHECK the "Disable SMTP Auth Reporting", I get the 0x800ccc79 error
(not a gateway)
2) CHECK the "Disable SMTP Auth Reporting", I get the 0x800ccc79 error (not
a gateway)

In both cases I use "NO MAIL RELAY" because the other options don't work
either.

I have just stopped, started, restarted, and did other things to my server
(including the ritual dance at midnight at the cemetery with the dead cat
over my left shoulder etc) and it still doesnt work.

What should be the state of the SMTP Verify and SMTP Reporting check boxes
on the server (just the check boxes because there are double negatives
flying all over the place).

Has anybody seen this TCP/IP termination error before?

Is there any other way to stop mail relay, if these options don't work?

thanks I really appreciate your help,
Marcin
