I can't speak for the consensus, but the fax add-on is like the list 
manager.  It's price pretty much defines its quality/features 
compared to email-to-fax products.  As with the list server, if you 
have serious, volume, diverse email-to-fax requirements for services 
that you want to sell your clients, shop around.  www.gfifax.com 
FaxMaker for SMTP deserves a look.
