No, this a marketing "numbers game".  I bet f-prot's 40K are just as 
good as others in practice.  I wonder if Norton and McAfee still 
counts all the DOS viruses from 10  years ago in their totals to win 
the "more is better" game?

Although viruses do seem to hang around, the support for 1000's of 
ancient viruses is much less important than catching the most recent 
viruses of the last year or month or week.
