Those are very good questions John.
I guess our answers have to do with our basic business philosophy more than
anything else. We aren't really trying to catch 100% of all possible
viruses but we'd like to protect our clients and ourselves to a reasonably
high degree for a relatively low total cost. We felt that f-prot and
declude helped us achieve that goal. I use CAI's InnoculateIt on my
workstation and have been very pleased with it. We urge all of our client
users to take adequate precautions themselves. All of the virus solutions
currently in use can fail on a new virus so a virus scanner of any type does
not guarantee freedom from infection.

I have not decided whether I'll update the def files programmatically or
not. Usually on something that is done infrequently I prefer to do it
myself manually. Then after some experience I determine whether to automate
or not. The update of the def files could not be much easier as you just
replace the old ones with new ones.

>Can you post recommended switches for f-prot used in the virus.cfg file?

I ended up with this:
F-Prot.exe /ALL /TYPE /SILENT /NOMEM
I actually think f-prot.exe /NOMEM is really all you need though when
scanning a single file in command mode but the others didn't seem to hurt
anything and I decided to leave them. (/ALL is not a listed option but it
does not produce an error so I left it.)
