Okay, I know this is confusing, but in the IIS MMC, you do NOT define the
"outgoing" port in the sense that you define which port MS SMTP uses for
itself. Instead, you define the port on which the OTHER mail server is
contacted. So you MUST leave it at 25 unless you are conversing with
another mail server which is configured to ANSWER on a different port.

Correct - that's what MS-SMTP does. You can configure the INCOMING port.
And THAT's the one you HAVE to change to something different than 25. But
on the OUTBOUND side you can define (by domain) at which port MS SMTP
contacts the OTHER mail server - you can (and need not) define which port MS
SMTP uses as its OWN port for outbound SMTP.
If you tell us which version of Windows NT you are using, someone may be
able to tell you the specific screen to go to for these settings. Although,
there is already a knowledgebase entry for that!
