Jeff,
I guess I wonder why you cannot set up virtual domains for all 1500. Then
each domain will have its own set of unique users. I suppose this might be a
bit (OK a lot!) more work and if you don't have than many IPs, the virtual
domain capability will mean the users may have to login somewhat differently
than they are currently used to.
You cannot have 1500 domain aliases (25 entries or 255 chars is the max), so
I cannot see any way to make that technique work (well there might be, but
you would still have to create at least 1500/25, domains).
A standard or group alias can have outside destination addresses.
A recent email to the forum (check the archive) discussed rules that could
redirect email for a 'user', depending on what the full email address was.
Using your techniques would meant that any user 'bob' could use that as his
address, but then has to login as bob1, bob2, ...., bob1500. Using mine,
each bob would login to his own domain.
