Craig,
Sounds like a 'lock' conflict. When IMail is using files, it locks them so
other modifications cannot be made until the lock is removed. So does your
backup system. Tell your backup system to 'try later' or 'skip open files',
the locked files and it should be better. Why does it work, sometimes?
Because the locks are not always present, or are there at different times,
so the conflict does not occur.
