[IMail Forum] Default Mailbox files

Web mail defines 4 default mailboxes, Main, Sent, Deleted, and Draft. There are several descrepancies that revolve around the fact that these mailboxes are expected to exist, but do not exist under many scenarios including the creation of a new user using Imail Administrator.   1. Create a new user, [EMAIL PROTECTED], using IMail Administrator. Note that it creates the users directory, but does not create any mailboxes (Main.mbx, Draft.mbx, Sent.mbx, or Deleted.mbx).   Fix:    Administrator should have created all 4 mailboxes....   2. Using web mail, log into the mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] You will note that only 3 mailboxes are listed, (Main, Deleted, and Sent). However, Draft is a default mailbox. Draft is where a partially composed message is saved until I finsh composing it and send it to the recipient. At this time if you examine the users directory, no mailbox files exist in the directory. So either Draft IS a default and should be listed, or it IS NOT a default (so don't ever compromise me by automatically saving a file there when I click save).   3. FROM ANOTHER ACCOUNT, send [EMAIL PROTECTED] a message.   4. Back at web mail in the test account, click the Menu button. The Main mailbox now lists 1 message and the user's directory will now show the file Main.mbx. Click on the message to read it. While viewing the message please note that the "Move To" button and Mailbox list do not appear. They do not appear, because the other mailbox files(Deleted, Sent, and Draft) do not exist. So, even though two of the mailboxes were listed on the menu page, I CANNOT move a message to them. This issue provides an inconsistent user interface.   Fix:    Administrator should have created all 4 mailboxes....   5. In user preferences, choose save a copy of outgoing messages in the sent folder, choose move deleted messages to the Deleted folder.   6. Compose a message to some other account and click the SAVE button. Web Mail goes away for a VERY LONG time (It must be trying to figure out where the Draft.mbx file went....). When it finally returns, you have a Draft.mbx and the Draft mail box is listed with 1 message.   Fix:    Administrator should have created all 4 mailboxes....   7. Click on the Draft mailbox, Click on the message, Click Send. You now have a valid Sent.mbx containing 1 message and a valid Draft mailbox that is empty.   8. Click on the Sent Mailbox, Click on the message. Delete the message. Now you have a Deleted mailbox with one message.   9. Go to "Manage Folders". In the Delete area, select any of the 4 mail boxes and click delete. Go to Menu. Note that Deleted is listed, but if you click the Main mailbox, click on a message, you will note that you cannot move a message to the Deleted folder. Yes, yes, I know, just click delete. That is not the point. We could have been talking about the Sent folder, or the Draft folder...   Fix: If any of the 4 default mailboxes are deleted or renamed via Managing Folders, automatically create the appropriate empty mailbox file.   10.  Go to "Manage Folders". In the Delete area, select the Main mailbox and delete it. Now go to Auto Responder maintenance ( Account Option, whatever you call it). Select the Main mailbox, Click Update, Enter some text in the Message textarea and Click Save. Oops, what was that error message???   Invalid name of folder, unable to create response file.   Fix: If any of the 4 default mailboxes are deleted or renamed via Managing Folders, automatically create an empty mailbox file.   PS: How about: "Invalid folder name, unable to create response file.".
