I suggest you put the Imail server on a public ip in a DMZ behind the
Cisco and in front of NBM.

Imail doesn't know anything about proxy, that's the proxy's job. The
proxy clients know about proxy, not servers.

You're not KISS, drop the proxy, drop the
SMTP-behind-NAT-with-port-mapping, and just do the DMZ thing.
If you really wanna impress your management, then put a bastion mail
relay host in the DMZ (see IMGate in my sig) and put Imail behind the
NBM with port mapping. You internal mail stays strictly local behind
the NBM (rather than going in/out NBM if Imail was in the DMZ).
And IMGate stops abusive mail in the DMZ and keeps it out of
NBM. IMGate would also deliver Imail outbound and keep all that DNS
lookup traffic out of the NBM. The IMGate bastion would be your MX host.
If you run a public DNS, put that in the DMZ, too, to keep the
iterative query traffic out of NBM.
