James,
Not a very current version, so no version specific help that I can provide,
but here are some general things.
Since it happened about the same time on 2 days, have you considered it
might be some form of DOS attack? I'm sure that version has some
vulnerabilities that a newer version would not. Check logs and such to see
if you can see similar events just prior to the problem.
Did you run chkdsk /f on the drive that contains the program files? Damaged
files can give very strange results.
Did you try re-installing? That will copy over the files and can fix any
damaged files.
Did you install any other software on this computer in the recent past? If
you did, it is a good idea to re-install your current service pack after
most any software install. It probably would not hurt to do this anyway.
