In talikng with aol about mail that was accepted by their mail gateway but
never delivered..they let it slip or  shared with me that they have a point
system to filter out spam.

For example, not having a pointer record by itself is not enough to trigger
the spam filter..however in conjunction with points awarded for other
aspects of the email, it  might be enough  to tip the scale, and trigger
the spam filter.

Aol was fairly responsive. It took them 2 or 3 days to call back and then
the rep gave me his direct number in case we had more issues. That  is a
real improvement over the last time i contacted them a year or so ago.

has good info on reasons you may get error messages in your logs when trying
to deliver to aol.

However, to handle the situation where it  is delivered to aol, but then
does not get to the recipient..you need to call them.

Aol does not publicize the number. ..I guess they want to make sure you are
a sys admin and have the wherewithal to track down the number based on the
clue they give  you..hahaha

Eventually i found the info needed by looking up aol.com at:
http://www02.registrar.aol.com/whois/

The phone number listed on the record is the one to call.

Hope this helps.
I know aol should not accept mail and then not deliver it. However, I
thought this might help others..who have to explain to their customers why
the mail is not getting through.
