Then you are reading the thread about AOL and maybe have seem my most recent
response there. My findings and yours are consistent (used to bounce but now
accepted) with AOL 'changing' what they are doing, but none of us really
'know' what they are doing.
Whatever is going on, is at their end, I'm convinced of that. If IMail
delivers the email and AOL throws them away and the AOL users don't like
that, then they should complain and loudly, to AOL. To me, this is just like
a Rule in IMail that sends to NUL. There is a reason, but only the one who
creates the rule, knows the real intent.
I don't know what senders can do, except to also complain to AOL. Demand to
learn more about the criterion they use for accepting email, and for
discarding it. I guess they fear that if they tell the 'rules' then spammers
will figure out ways around them (they will anyway!). And of course, the
probably figure they are 'protecting' their users, so to them, this is a
'good thing' and they probably won't tell us exactly what the rules are.
Unfortunately, the issue of SPAM and way of reducing it, have so many ways
of accomplishing the task (and it is such a subjective thing!), that no one
knows what they will encounter at any particular server. And 'new
technology', just pops up, leaving us all wondering what is happening. I
believe this is just one of many 'changes' we will see from the large
services over the next few months (like the port 25 blocking about a year
ago). All we can do is ask questions, explore the sites and their 'rules'
and cope with it. Unfortunately, I don't know of any way around the current
issue, that I have not already mentioned.
I sort of think that as we find out more from AOL (good work so far,
Grant!), some solutions will help, but I'm not expecting a 'fix' from AOL,
any time soon!
