We've had clients ask for large messages, but that's bigger than any I've
ever heard of. We offer them FTP sites as an alternative. Some mail
servers will not allow messages larger than 1Mb (total size). Often
customers on slow connections get timed out on these larger messages. FTP
avoids all of these problems.

It's like I've always said, "You can get more with a kind word and a
two by four, than you can get with just a kind word."

Subject: [IMail Forum] message size
limits
We have a client that needs to send very large
messages - 7 to 8MB range. This client wants us to increase our current
maximum message size from 5MB to 10MB. This mail server currently
supports several hundred virtual hosts, with 2-3,000 users.
Does anyone have any experience with messages of
this size? Have they caused any problems for the mail server or other
users? We don't want to risk impacting any other clients by increasing
the size limit for this client. We might be willing to accept some
throughput degradation when the large messages are being sent, but not any
impact on stability/availability. Anyone know if there will there be any
impact on other clients or the server itself?
Thanks,
David
