'The end-user must ultimately accept responsibility for the results of
opening unsolicited email attachments' - In a perfect world maybe.
Reality however is that we must accept that the end-user is an idiot and
do everything we can to protect them from themselves. We use desktop
anti-virus software, virus-scanning software at the gateway, rules-based
software at the gateway (eg no vbs attachments allowed in) and rules on
the mail server.
Cheers

The end-user must ultimately accept responsibility for the results of
opening unsolicited email attachments. In a work environment, install
desktop level anti-virus protection as an additional layer and push
weekly updates during login. McAfee www.nai.com provides tools to
automate the process.
