Is this user connecting over a slow network (dialup)?
Does this user force close the email client when encountering an error?

My guess is this happens most frequently when there is a larger email file
(attachments are often the cause). And when the user has any problem,
frustration causes them to force close the email client, leaving IMail to
think the connection was not closed properly, so the next login attempt gets
the error.

Have the user extend any 'timeouts' (to at least 60 seconds) and extend the
time between checks for email. Checking more often than every 5 minutes, is
too often, especially over a dialup and when megabyte attachments may be
expected. For Dialup users, check every 10-15 minutes, is good.

Also suspect the problem 'goes away' after the large email is either deleted
from the server or completely downloaded to the client.

Check you logs to see how often the users client is connecting to the POP3
server. That can tell you if the client is connecting often (the time
setting in the client!).
