Hi I am new to the dns stuff and what to know how to do this correctly. I
have my domain domain1.com, i also host 20 domains for others mostly email
only. I have 4 IP address. The way i have it now. all w2K boxes
207.228.85.86 ns1.activeinfosystems.com DNS and routing gatway
207.228.126.171 ns1.planetinterlink.com email server
207.228.126.173 web.planetinterlink.com
so what I have is for each domain that i host
host mail point to ns1.planetintelrink.com people check their email with
mail.planetinterlink.com
host www point to web.planetinterlink.com this hosts all websites so I make
a host name www for each domain that points to this server.
mx record for each domain that points to mail.planetintelrink.com
In NTMail i have each domain hosted as a virual domain using hte IP address
of the server
I send email fine except to some domains but most work on all domains. I
use windows 2000 DNS server ( should i use a third party.?) the other thing
is i can not ping just the domain on any that i host such as
planetinterlink.com but i can ping mail.planetinterlink.com.
Should i be using CNAMES for virual domain instead of host names.? I have
read about settign up DNS stuff but nothing talk about if you have 30 domain
and ony 3 IP's
