zulu, gmt. east coast is gmt-4 summer, gmt-5 winter or maybe i have it
reversed. greenwich mean time from the telex and telegraph, telephony and
radio salad days of yore. halcyon days of my youth. old ham radio and
early communications theory people had to learn timing so that we could
learn timing. does that make sense?

here, i'll say it again the way i said it a few nights ago for laughs, but
now i'm in most definite heartfelt earnest. receive me, i mean you no
harm. here's how i learned it all:

back in '87, i sat at a pc for some random purpose. i needed to create a
directory listing from a file. who knows why. here's what happened.

Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
(C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>dir foo.txt>>foo.txt | that early version OS errored and
said file not found
                                                  |but in any endeavor
persistent failure yields a result of
C:\>dir foo.txt>>foo.txt |sorts. i found the error, i had set
a trap for nothing.
                                                  |but that will always
yield something. stone soup.
C:\>type foo.txt | see what you have. be thankful
for what you have.

first i failed. in anger and frustration i punched the F3 key and
reiterated what i thought was a broken command.

my salad days.

they tell me you can't teach an old dog new tricks. i sometimes find it
hard to teach new dogs the old tricks.

i'm patmathews, and i'm angering the whole internet, one admin at a time.

Subject: [IMail Forum] email time

What time is used for the email messages? I thought it was client, but that
doesn't always match. It doesn't seem to be the server time either though.
Where does this mysterious time come from?

thanks
