I have a very serious question for any who can give good points to
their response. We spent $1495 on the IMail Unlimited w/service
agreement in Feb 2000. We have only added Killerwebmail to that.
We are comparing two products for a long term mailserver solution
and would appreciate any constructive and helpful information any
of you can provide.
I have only one problem with IMail, which spans the whole product
in relation to pricing and features versus the other one we are comparing
IceWarp's Merak Pro Server.
SQL support is very important as we need to integrate our other programs
with mail server support, etc.
In order to provide good service with IMail including Listserv, and
Virus Scanning:
IMail 7 Unlimited Users - $2495 (since our agreement ran out in Feb.)
KillerWebMail - $295 (could go with the classics which are cheaper but
KillerWebMail speaks for itself, it
is killer)
[ our license for updates ran out in
Feb for this too]
ListServ - Lyris List Manager - $3000
AntiVirus - Declude - $495 & a scanner of choice ($ depends on choice)
ODBC Support - problems from time to time with SQL from what I have
seen on this list.
Comparison:
Merak Pro - $840, come with unlimited users and their webmail interface
AntiVirus - scanning with your choice of scanner is built in! saving $495
Templates - well I could not find customized templates to buy but they are
customizable and we could do that in house, cannot
say I
would save the $295 due to time to actually program
them.
ListServ - Not sure here, as we have not used their listserv, and I was
hoping someone here that has could describe its
performance
and issues.
ODBC Support - solid with SQL from what I have seen on their forums.
But overall, assuming the listserv is good, the difference is huge in
pricing
and for a small startup shop like us with under 500 clients so far, this
tends
to play an important role. We will spend the money if it is a product we
are
going to live with for a long time, but when you are comparing spending:
$6285 for IMail and Add-Ons, and $1135 ( or even $4135 with Lyris) it is
a big deal for us.
Thank you for your assistance.
