Problem: We are an ISP using IMail v7.02 and Win2k Active Directory for the
database, random users can not authenticate via POP3 or SMTP, UNTIL the
password is reset via the Active Directory Users and Groups in Win2k.
However, the same people that have the problem can dial into us and get
authenticated using the same password and this is the same group of users in
the Active Directory. This leads me to believe that it is not a problem
with the actual account in active directory since it will auth the dial-up
users. I see no pattern to the problem and it only happens to some of the
users. Below is all the details, has anyone else run across this problem?
Here is the situation:
I was running IMail v6.06 on and NT4(SP6) server and was using the NT
Database(NT User Manager for Domains) for Authentication. I also used the
NT Database(NT User Manager for Domains) for my dial-up users to
authenticate off of. -This particular setup worked flawlessly!
Over the weekend, I setup an entirely new server running Win2k-Advanced
Server with a new domain under Active Directory. I used the Active
Directory Migration tool to import users off the old domain(Mentioned above)
to the new active directory. Next I installed IMail v6.06 and restored the
IMail registry from a backup off the old NT4 server. I had 5 virtual
domains(each assigned to their own IP) which each used their own IMail
Database + the one that used the NT Database, now active directory(also on
its own IP).
Everything transferred over without any problems and all the accounts were
visible. I can currently send mail to any/all accounts on both the
virtuals(IMail DB's) and the virtual using the active directory database. I
am getting a lot of calls though of people not being able to POP in and
check mail which can be resolved by resetting the password in active
directory. I see error in the logs that says login failure for the POP3
service even though they are using the correct password. I have already
tried rebooting.... still having the same issue.
