Call them do not read the site, because the site just confuses you.  I called about this but why would you use active dir for a mail server. ? who cares if the user and pass are different from the comp logon.  If you authenticate a user using MS SAM database then you have to have a license for that user, if you do not and the program authenticates then not you do not need the license unless the user uses the printer or a resource such as file and print sharing.
But you are best to call the support center and ask for licensing department and they can best give you the answers for you particular setup.

If you use the W2K domain user accounts then yes you have to pay for user authentication, but with a product like Imail that does its own user authentication then no you do not need a license for every user.  You only need a license for W2K if it authenticates a user or a user that uses a service of NT like printing or a folder directory.
