did you realize that you explicit have to enable each virtual mailer for ssl?
Check it in the registry, 
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ipswitch\IMail\Domains\virtual001:
---
"EnableSSL"=dword:00000001
---
