I'd wonder if it's how it's set initially. I have not have a problem with ldaper. However, I did find that you need to have every field at least two characters. I got very inconsitant results before I figured that out. I have an asp script that will extract the values from the Person.dta file and format the info for ldaper input from a batch file if you want to try it. You'll need to do some mods for your setup but I don't think it uses anything special. I have used this to populalate my person.dta when it gets problematic.
