[IMail Forum] Many emails

I have a mailing list of approx. 50,000 email addresses. I'm going to write some asp code to allow a website administrator to send out an email to the list. Would IMail handle that level of emails all trying to go out at the same time?   I'm reletively new to all this so forgive me if I sound stupid! Does it simply queue the emails and send them out 1 at a time? And if so, how long approximately would it take to send 50,000 emails? If all the emails go out through IMail, I presume they will all have to go through an ISP's mail server aswell in which case will that handle all the emails at once? Thanks for any advice that you can give
